Hello!
Our Tuesday meeting was attended by about 10 people, and we managed to cover some useful ground and get some ideas on the table. The issues mentioned were:
The need for Funding > Funding is crucial for the project to get established. Items needed are:
* Seed-bank ( Preferably Student Sourced, suggested £5 donation to collective order )
* Tools
* Compost / Manure ( Not only sourcing but also transport )
* Timber for beds
* New rear gate
* Greenhouse
* Fencepost replacement
* Cloche Plastic
* Publicity (Leaflets, Flyers etc. )
* Wood chip
* Straw Bales for mulching
This is just a provisional list that may be added to if you feel it would be of a sensible benefit.
Ways of generating funds / resources :
* Persisting with funding from estates department ( Koos and Mischa have volunteered to do this )
* Union Activities Fund
* Fund-raising evening at Eastslope bar and Maybe bonfire up at site when weather is warmer
* Applying for grants from external bodies - This could be a great help and could give us more money to play with.
Applying for grants
Some of the funding bodies I mentioned were:
http://www.rswt.org/localfood/ - The national lottery fund going online in the spring of 2008, with £47 million to give!
http://www.awardsforall.org.uk/ - Another Lottery based community grants scheme
http://www.bhfood.org.uk/news.php?id=7 - A local organisation with small grants of £1000 (Mischa is willing to apply for )
http://www.funderfinder.org.uk/ayfb.php - Apply Yourselves is a piece of software that helps you write effective funding applications
Some people mentioned applying for grants - It may be good if people could put a post on the forum if they're going try, so that others know and can help if possible.
This coming Sunday the 27th....
Both myself and Rich will be away this Sunday but for those who'd like to do some work you could:
* Finish digging out the raised beds in the same diagonal fashion that has been started
* Bringing down compost to mix in with the raised top-soil
* Collecting cardboard to lay on the new areas acquired
Apart from that we shall have to wait until some more resources are made available : )
We agreed to meet a the same time next week at Falmer Common room for a catch up, so until 5pm, next Tuesday 29th I wish you all peace,
